Resolving Family Disputes
with Expertise & Care
Kim Wong
FOUNDING LAWYER
Kim earned his law degree from the University of Hong Kong in 2012. In 2013, he began a four-year battle with cancer that deepened his faith, compassion, and resilience—ultimately inspiring a calling to walk alongside family law clients through their own difficult journeys.
Called to the Ontario Bar in 2019, Kim honed his family law skills at two respected mid-sized firms before opening his own practice. His resolution-oriented approach has helped hundreds of clients both in and out of the courtroom.
Kim provides leadership on the Elder Board of Bayview Glen Church and has been invited to share his family law insights with Ming Pao Daily, Living Water Counselling Center, CCM Legal Clinic, FACL, and other organizations.

How Our Approach Saves CostsWe focus on resolution, not escalation—avoiding unnecessary conflict and saving you time and money. Our experience allows us to spot problems early and guide you toward cost-effective solutions. We also use technology to streamline communication, minimize admin time, and ensure faster service. We also take on a limited number of cases to ensure every file gets timely, focused attention.
-
Retainer and BillingTo begin work on your matter, we typically request an initial retainer of $3,000, held in trust. Legal fees and disbursements are billed against this amount as work progresses. Once the retainer is used, a further retainer may be requested. Any unused funds will be returned to you at the conclusion of your file. You will receive monthly detailed invoices showing time spent and services performed. We also make it a priority to discuss your anticipated legal costs with you regularly throughout the process.
-
Legal Aid CertificatesPlease note that we do not currently accept Legal Aid certificates.
-
Hourly RateKim’s standard hourly rate is $325 + HST, billed in six-minute increments. This reflects our experience, responsiveness, and commitment to high-quality legal work. To help manage costs, we delegate appropriate tasks to our trusted law clerks who are billed at $180 + HST per hour. This allows us to work efficiently while keeping your overall legal fees as affordable as possible.
-
Consultation FeesWe offer two discounted, flat-rate consultation options: 45-Minute Phone/Zoom Consultation — $150 + HST 60-Minute In-Person Consultation — $300 + HST Some law firms offer free consultations, but as the saying goes—you get what you pay for. Our consultations are one of the best values we offer. For a discounted fee, you receive more than just general information. We take the time to understand your situation, answer key questions, and provide legal advice and strategy tailored to your unique needs. Clients often leave feeling clearer, more confident, and better prepared to take the next step. If you decide to retain us after the consultation, the full consultation fee will be credited toward your initial retainer.
-
What Affects the Total Cost? The overall cost of your case will depend on factors such as: The complexity of your matter The number of legal issues involved (e.g. parenting, support, property division) The level of cooperation from the other party The process used to resolve your case (negotiation, mediation, court, etc.)
-
Uncontested DivorceFor certain matters, such as uncontested divorces, we may offer a flat fee starting at $1,500 + HST + disbursements. This option is available when both parties agree on all issues and no negotiation is required.
-
CourtWhen negotiation isn’t possible or the matter is urgent or high-conflict, we represent clients in both the Ontario Court of Justice and Superior Court of Justice with strong advocacy.
-
Collaborative PracticeIn this team-based process, both parties and their lawyers commit in writing not to go to court. The focus is on respectful dialogue, full financial disclosure, and child-focused outcomes.
-
NegotiationMany family law issues can be resolved through lawyer-assisted negotiation. We help you communicate effectively, explore fair solutions, and finalize agreements without going to court.
-
ArbitrationAn arbitrator—similar to a private judge—hears both sides and makes a legally binding decision. Arbitration can be faster, more private, and more flexible than court.
-
Med-Arb (Mediation-Arbitration)This hybrid process begins with mediation. If no agreement is reached, the mediator becomes an arbitrator and issues a binding decision. It offers both flexibility and finality
-
MediationA trained mediator facilitates discussions between both parties to help reach a mutual agreement. We can represent you during mediation or provide legal advice in the background.
-
Parenting Time & Decision-Making ResponsibilityWe help parents create arrangements that serve their child’s best interest. These include where the child lives (parenting time, formerly known as access) and who makes major decisions (decision-making responsibility, formerly known as custody).
-
Spousal SupportWe guide clients through questions of eligibility, duration, and amount of support. Whether you're seeking or responding to a claim, we provide strategic advice and work toward a fair and appropriate resolution
-
Separation AgreementsA well-crafted separation agreement clearly sets out each party’s rights and responsibilities and helps prevent future disputes. We help negotiate and prepare agreements that are tailored to your situation, comprehensive in scope, and legally enforceable.
-
Divorce & SeparationWe assist with both contested and uncontested divorces. We help you understand the steps involved and work toward a resolution that protects your rights and allows you to move forward.
-
